When a company tries offshoring for the first time, it’s normal to have a few doubts — especially when the role is niche. That was the case with Preferred Training Networks, an Australian company looking to hire a skilled Instructional Designer. It’s a role that’s still relatively new and specialised, and while designers are common, finding someone with true instructional design expertise can be a challenge.
What made this story more personal was the connection behind it. Niall, the CEO of Preferred Training Networks, is a long-time customer of the Webco Group. After a casual chat with our CEO, Niall decided to give offshoring a go.
From Conversation to Action
Our team connected with Niall to understand what he was really looking for. We worked together to map out a clear job description and began advertising the role across talent-rich regions like Sri Lanka and the Philippines.
To get a better feel for the candidates, we asked them to submit short videos introducing themselves and sharing their experience as instructional designers. This added a personal layer to the application and helped us better understand how each candidate communicated and carried themselves.
Finding the Right Fit
Once we reviewed the applications, we shortlisted the most promising profiles and passed them to Niall for final interviews. To further evaluate their practical skills, Niall gave each candidate a small assessment task.
Through this thoughtful and client-focused approach, Niall was able to select someone who was not only experienced but also a great cultural fit for his team.
